Prep time: 5 minutes Cook time: 12–15 minutes Makes: About 2 cups
Air fryer chickpeas turn one inexpensive can of beans into a warm, crisp snack with a simple spice coating.
Ingredients
- 1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- Black pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Drain and rinse the chickpeas, then pat them very dry with a clean towel.
- Toss chickpeas with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat the air fryer to 390°F if your model requires it.
- Cook chickpeas in a single layer for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket once or twice.
- Start checking at 10 minutes. They should be crisp outside and golden.
- Cool for 5 minutes before eating. They become crisper as they cool.
Storage
Chickpeas taste best on the day they are made. Store leftovers loosely covered at room temperature for one day, then re-crisp in the air fryer for 2 to 3 minutes.
Easy substitutions
- Use cumin and chili powder for a taco-style version.
- Use cinnamon and a tiny pinch of sugar for a sweet option.
- Roast at 400°F for 25 to 30 minutes if you do not have an air fryer.
Make it part of your week
Use them as a desk snack, add them to salad, or serve them with hummus and vegetables for a more complete snack plate.
